Could a Chemical Peel enhance Your Glow?
What every skin tone needs to know before booking a chemical peel at Aegis MD
Not all skin is the same, and neither are chemical peels. That’s why this popular treatment needs to be tailored. To achieve the results of smooth texture, clear breakouts, and faded discoloration, your chemical peel can not be templated.
At Aegis MD in St. Catharines, we specialize in personalized medical aesthetics. Your skin type, tone, and concerns matter. Here’s what you need to know before booking a peel.
Skin Types 101: The Fitzpatrick Scale
For Lighter Skin Tones (Fitzpatrick I–III)
For Medium to Deep Skin Tones (Fitzpatrick IV–VI)
This is where having an expert provider makes a difference. Darker skin tones have more active melanocytes (pigment-producing cells). That means an aggressive peel can trigger hyperpigmentation or hypopigmentation if it’s not chosen and performed correctly. But that doesn’t mean peels are off-limits. You need the right kind and a provider with experience and expertise.
At Aegis MD in St. Catharines, we use a combination of melanin-safe formulations, strategic layering, and prep regimens to minimize risk and maximize glow.
What not to do before your peel:
- No waxing or strong actives 3–5 days before
- Avoid the sun (before and after)
- Skip retinoids for a few days leading up to your treatment
