After Your Fraxel: What to Expect Day by Day

A gentle look at how your skin transforms over time

One of the most common questions patients ask before Fraxel is not about the treatment itself, but about what happens after. Understanding the recovery timeline helps remove uncertainty and allows you to move through the process with confidence.

At Aegis MD Partner of Dermapure in St. Catharines, we often describe Fraxel as a treatment where the real work begins after you leave the clinic. What follows is a gradual, structured renewal of your skin, unfolding day by day.

Immediately After Treatment

Right after your session, your skin will likely feel warm, similar to a mild sunburn. Redness and slight swelling are expected and are part of the skin’s natural response to the laser.

At this stage, your skin is highly active beneath the surface. The healing process has already begun.

Days 1 to 2: Redness and Sensitivity

In the first couple of days, redness remains noticeable, and the skin may feel tight or slightly swollen. This phase can feel like your skin is “on,” actively working to repair itself.

Most people find this stage manageable, and many return to their daily routine with gentle skincare and sun protection.

Days 3 to 5: Texture Changes and Early Peeling

This is when the transformation becomes more visible. The skin often takes on a rough, sandpaper-like texture as damaged cells begin to surface.

You may notice small, darker dots or a slightly bronzed appearance. This is a normal part of the process, as your skin prepares to shed what it no longer needs.

Days 4 to 7: Peeling and Renewal

Peeling becomes more noticeable during this phase. The outer layer begins to flake away, revealing fresher, smoother skin underneath.

It’s important not to pick or disrupt this process. Allowing the skin to shed naturally supports a more even and refined result.

By the end of this stage, most visible recovery is complete.

End of Week 1: A Fresh Surface Appears

At this point, the skin feels softer and looks clearer, although a light pink tone may still remain. Makeup can usually be resumed, and your skin begins to feel more like itself again.

This is often the first moment patients notice a visible improvement.

Weeks 2 to 4: Subtle Refinement

As redness fades, your skin continues to improve in tone and texture. Collagen production is now actively underway beneath the surface, supporting ongoing changes.

The results at this stage feel natural. Skin appears smoother, more even, and more luminous without looking treated.

1 to 3 Months:Full Results Develop

Fraxel is not an instant result treatment. The most meaningful changes appear gradually as collagen continues to rebuild.

Over the following months, you may notice:

This slow progression is what makes Fraxel feel so refined and natural.
